June: Slowing Down, Softening Inward
“A gentle invitation into a slower, softer summer — one filled with birdsong mornings, grounding rituals, calming aromatherapy, and peaceful evenings beneath the fading light.””
When was the last time you sang your head off without caring who could hear, or danced freely in your garden? If it’s been more than a month, let today be the day. Somewhere along the way, many of us became too constrained, too serious, too focused on being sensible all the time. But humans were never meant to live only in productivity, we are made to move, to sing, to play, and to feel alive
As June arrives and the days get longer, many of us feel pressure to do more, more plans, more socialising, more productivity. But perhaps this season is inviting something else entirely.
A slower pace.
A softer nervous system.
A deeper connection back to ourselves.
This summer, instead of rushing through your day, what if we allowed ourselves to truly experience it?
As a holistic therapist, I believe healing often begins in the simplest moments: bare feet on the grass, stillness before the world wakes, the scent of essential oils drifting through an open window, listening to birdsong with your first glass of water in hand.
Slow living is not about doing less for the sake of it. It’s about creating space for the body, mind, and emotions to breathe again.
Begin the day before the rush
One of the gentlest shifts we can make is waking slightly earlier — not to be more productive, but to experience calm before the demands of the day begin.
Before emails, scrolling, or rushing:
Step outside with your first glass of water
Feel the morning air on your skin
Listen to the birds waking up
Breathe deeply before taking in the noise of the world
Let your nervous system arrive slowly into the day
These quiet moments outdoors help regulate the emotional body far more than we realise.
Morning light exposure also helps support the circadian rhythm — the body’s natural internal clock that regulates sleep, energy, hormones, mood, and nervous system balance. Even ten minutes of natural morning light can help improve energy during the day and encourage deeper, more restorative sleep at night.
You might diffuse uplifting oils like our fresh as a daisy blend (rosemary, frankincense, sweet orange and cedarwood), while getting ready, allowing the scent to gently awaken the senses
Healing through scent and stillness
Aromatherapy is one of the most beautiful ways to support emotional well-being naturally. Scent connects directly to memory, emotion, and the nervous system, making it a powerful tool for slowing down and softening inward.
This season, create small rituals around scent:
Lavender next to your pillow before sleep
Frankincense during meditation
Neroli for emotional balance
Peppermint for mental clarity
Geranium bourbon to soothe overwhelm
Even lighting a candle or spraying a room spray with intention can become a grounding moment of self-connection.
So many people are carrying emotional tension in the body without even realising it. Constant stimulation, stress, rushing, and emotional overload can leave the nervous system feeling dysregulated and exhausted.
This is why I created The Emotional Body Reset guided meditations — gentle audio experiences designed to help you:
Slow the mind
Reconnect with the body
Release emotional heaviness
Regulate the nervous system
Create inner calm and safety
These meditations are designed to become part of your daily rituals — moments where you can simply pause, breathe, and return to yourself.
When practised consistently, slowing down in this way can also support the body in returning to a more natural rhythm — helping us move away from constant overstimulation and back towards deeper rest, balance, and restoration. Have a read below about them
Support the body holistically
True wellbeing is never just physical. The body holds stress, emotion, fatigue, and overwhelm in subtle ways.
Treatments such as reflexology and reiki can offer the body an opportunity to deeply rest and rebalance, helping to calm the nervous system while encouraging emotional release and restoration.
Healing does not always need to be forceful or dramatic. Often, it is found in gentleness.
Romanticise a slower summer
A soft summer may look like:
Linen drying in the sunshine
Herbal tea in the garden
Essential oils diffusing through the home
Reading instead of scrolling
Barefoot walks on the grass
Slow evenings with no pressure to perform
Allowing rest without guilt
There is something deeply healing about returning to simple pleasures.
End the day with dusk, not screens
Just as the morning sets the tone for the day, the evening teaches the body how to rest.
Instead of ending the night overstimulated and disconnected, try creating a dusk ritual:
Sit quietly in the garden as the light fades
Listen to the evening birdsong
Put your phone away earlier
Diffuse calming oils like lavender or cedarwood
Breathe deeply and reflect on the day gently
Listen to a guided meditation before sleep
Reducing stimulation in the evening and allowing the body to soften naturally at dusk helps support melatonin production and encourages a healthier circadian rhythm, allowing the body to move more naturally into rest and repair.
Nature already knows how to slow down. We simply need to remember how to join it.
This June, perhaps the invitation is not to become more, but to soften into what already is.
To wake earlier, not for productivity, but for peace.
To use scent, stillness, and nature as medicine.
To allow your emotional body space to reset and breathe.
A slower summer is not about escaping life.
It is about finally being present enough to feel it
New! The Emotional Body Reset Guided Meditations
The Emotional Body Reset is a collection of guided meditations designed to support emotional well-being through the body. Each meditation focuses on a different organ, including the lungs, liver, stomach, kidneys, heart, spleen, and womb, gently exploring the emotional patterns often held within these areas. From grief and frustration to worry, fear, and disconnection, this series offers a calm and supportive space to release, soften, and restore balance.
Rooted in both holistic therapy and yogic philosophy, these practices also work with the koshas (the layers of the body), particularly the emotional body, where our inner experiences are felt and processed. You can choose the meditation that meets you where you are, or move through the full series as a journey, allowing each part of the body to be heard, supported, and rebalanced in its own time. Each recording includes a gentle introduction to help you settle comfortably, followed by guided breathwork and visualisation, and finishes with simple aftercare to support integration.
This is not about forcing change, but about creating space — for the body to release, for the mind to quieten, and for you to reconnect with a deeper sense of ease within yourself.
“Here’s a little fact for you: did you know that showering at night can help you sleep better? Neuroscience studies show that a warm evening shower helps lower your body temperature as you cool down afterward, signaling to your brain that it’s time to rest. An evening shower can also help wash away the stress and energy of the day, leaving you feeling calmer. A morning shower, on the other hand, boosts alertness and activates the nervous system”

My garden is buzzing literally. I am so happy that all the effort is paying off, with areas of the lawn left to grow taller, with tussocks that the bees love. I have looked after my garden organically for 30 years, so we’ve got ants, bees, and so many birds. If you can do anything for our wild friends, build a pond and try not to disturb the soil, as many bees make their homes in small holes.
From sleep blends to beautiful beach scents, you can fill your home with the scent of organic essential oils
