Allow the scent of a forest to feed your soul
“the forest is not just a place, its a feeling. A feeling you get when you breathe in the scent of the earth and the trees”
NEW! Forest Therapy soy candle
July sees the long awaited arrival of our new scent, “help me have some forest therapy”, the perfect scent to bring the therapeutic benefits of a quiet walk or time seated within the trees. We have blended organic essential oils of Wild Black Spruce, Ho Wood, and Cedarwood. The scent is calming, quietly uplifting, and clears your mind of worries, just like a walk in the woods.
Wild black spruce essential oil has a sweet, fresh scent that can calm your thoughts. When blended with Ho Wood, the two oils work together to help you relax and unwind. Ho Wood is rich in linalool, this gives the oil its relaxing properties especially during menupause. We have added a third essential oil, cedarwood, as this oil helps to improve your focus if your thoughts are everywhere, Cedarwood will bring you back to the present.
Forest Therapy or Shinrin Yoku
Forest therapy is a form of mindfulness meditation. Devised in Japan to help people cope with stress, you are encouraged to spend time sitting with the trees, quietly and mindfullly watching the trees and listening to the gentle rustle of leaves, there is a scent to a forest like no other, balsamic, pine, fresh and invigorating. The benefits of forest therapy are vast but research has shown that your blood pressure and stress levels will be lower, you will sleep better, be more focused, and your levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, will be much lower. But how do you enjoy a little Forest Therapy?
first find a forest or woodland, make sure you feel and are safe , maybe go with a friend. If you feel unsure going, maybe create an area in your garden with trees that is quiet and you will be undisturbed.
turn off your phone or place on silent, find a comfy spot to sit and allow your eyes to have a soft gaze. . If you would prefer to walk slowly, this is fine too
notice the sounds and scents around you, notice the shadows as the light plays within the trees. Maybe feel the bark on the trees, each type of tree has a different bark.
spend as long as you want just walking or sitting.
please always leave just footsteps in the forest and enjoy a glass of water
July is plastic free month. its a good idea from time to time to assess how much soft plastics, single use plastic, hidden plastics you use and how you can make changes. We are all very good at taking our own shopping bags to supermarkets but its very frustraing when foods come back in soft plastic. We are constantly working with suppliers to eliminate plastics, polystyrene and other plastics, we use no plastic in our packaging but my search for a plastic straw alternative goes on.
How are you getting on with leaving wild spaces in your garden? July is known as thigh high in July, my favourite place in the garden in reclining my summer chair on my lawn so that the longer pieces of grass tickle my feet. i enjoy the buzz around me. Come August, we can mow our lawns but for now, why not leave your mower in the shed and enjoy the freeness of July.
And Finally …….
July sees the arrival of our Muscle Therapy Balm. Made with organic ingredients to help soothe and calm tense tired muscles. We have blended organic essential oils of juniper berry, pine, sweet marjoram, lavender and lemon, the oils have powerful anti inflammatory properties and it smells wonderful! Available in a 50g aluminium tin but you can also find the balms in our gift boxes and Therapy Balm gift set.
I am often asked about the allergens in our products as many people are sensitive to linalool and limonene. So I am developing products free from linalool and limonene as part of our fragrance free collection. The next product to be launched is a Fragrance Free Therapy Balm, made with organic oils, butters and berry wax, they are allergen free and safe for use during pregnancy. We also have a massage oil free from essential oils
