As we change to autumn

This summer has been warm, sunny, at times too hot, and very dry. As the season changes to autumn and the days begin to shorten, the effect on our lymphatic and immune system can, for many people, be quite strong. As the schools reopen and we all go back to work after the holidays, we can be prone to viruses and feel tired. There are many things you can do to ease the transition from Summer to Autumn.

What is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system is very important to remove toxins, protect us from infections and clear excess fluid. Lymph is pumped around your body by movement and breath, unlike your circulation which is pumped around your body by your heart. We have lymph nodes at various points around the body. Lymph nodes filter germs, damaged tissues and action a response by your body to clear them. Lymph is a clear fluid carrying white blood cells which fight infection.

By breathing properly, we help to transport lymph around our body which, in turn, clears and fights any infection, keeping our body healthy. You can help your body by being active and eating a healthy balanced diet.

Why does the Lymphatic system struggle with the change to Autumn?

When the days become shorter and cooler, our body can be vulnerable to temperature changes., there is research that shows that when our body is exposed to cooler temperatures, our immune system can be surpressed.

There are many ways to boost our body’s immune response.

  • Get outside as much as you can, even on a damp day. Being outside, you are absorbing vitamin D and will be more active which helps to pump lymph around our body, clearing germs and damaged tissue.

  • Eat a healthy balanced diet. There is a belief that we should move our diet to root vegetable stews, green leafy veg, roasted vegetables and soups.

  • Exfoliate your skin either with a salt scrub or bodybrush each morning before your shower.

I have been a holistic therapist for nearly 30 years and have noticed recently that alot of customers coming to my therapy salon have back issues due to stress, emotional exhaustion and an inability to switch off. So i began to learn and have developed our Wellness Therapies. I have been a Reiki Master for many many years and practise Reflexology too so I understood the meridians. I also wanted to create gift boxes for you to give to someone special who needed a lift, hug, a way to understand how to rebalance. By using aromatherapy, self care, meditation, mindfulness and relaxation techniques, our gift boxes are packed with products and information they will find useful.

This is just the beginning for our Wellness Therapies. Helpmeorganics was born from my determination to make it easy for customers to have holistic therapy at home, I have many plans to develop further.

  • Our “hello to Winter” products will be back on our shelves on the 30th September. Perfect for Christmas, the scent is amazing even though i say it myself!

  • September is Sourdough month. Sourdough is so tasty and really healthy too so make your starter and get baking.

  • September is also, and we are very excited about, ORGANIC MONTH. We use organic ingredients in our products, we promote living organically as much as we can. With the climate crisis happening at the moment, now more than ever we need to farm organically, clean our homes using organic cleaners, eat organically, garden organically and use organic beauty products. The time for chemicals has gone, they harm our planet, destroy the soil and kill insects and mammals plus pollute our oceans. So please pledge to go organic. If enough people change to organically grown food, the price will reduce, the soil will improve, more flowers for wild bees and other insects. Join us, come on you won’t regret it

  • We talk just as much as living a balanced life. It is so important to find a work/life balance. And from 12th September to 17th September, we will be joining in with Balance Awareness Week. So keep an eye on our social media and read our tips and videos.

  • September is also the month to do a Beach or River Clean as part of Marine Conservation Great British Beach Clean 2022. Our oceans need us, not just for September but every day. The amount of sewage being pumped into the seas and rivers in this country is criminal by the authorities, they have been given permission to do this by our “wonderful” government. As you can see I do not agree, please tell your MP and join in with clean-ups to try and help our poor wildlife.

  • I am a reflexologist, I love reflexology and September is the month for World Reflexology Week, which starts on September 20th. If you have never had a reflexology session, please try it. It’s not ticklish or painful and can rebalance your energy, clear your sinuses, balance your hormones, help with fertility, lymphatic flow, digestive issues, stress, headaches and so much more.

  • And finally, Recycle Week starts on September 20th. Every little bit of our packaging can be recycled, reused, and added to your compost bin. Can you go a whole week without putting anything in your black bin which heads to the landfill? If you do, what is it? Can you change how you buy it? Many supermarkets now accept lots of different recycling materials but the best thing is to reduce what you have to recycle by taking boxes, and bags to your supermarket or trying your markets.

And finally ….

September is the month when the schools reopen if your child is nervous. It’s okay, try this simple meditation together to help them sleep.

Mindful breathing is very simple, but the results can be very great.

When you breathe in, you know that this is your in-breath. When you breath out, you are mindful that this is your out-breath.

Have a go now and notice how it really focuses your mind on breathing alone and how a sense of letting go comes into play. You are now breathing mindfully; you are bringing your mind home to yourself. So, the object of your mindfulness is your breath. As you breath in, this is my in-breath, as you breath out, this is my out-breath. When you do this, all other thoughts stop, they cease, you are focused on your breathing

We always recommend our “help me have a mindful of calm” for children who are worried, the combination of Frankincense, Geranium Bourbon and Lavender really helps them to relax. If you use the essential oil blend, 2 drops on the aromastone in their bedroom will diffuse throughout the night. The blend will help you too if this is the first time your child is starting school. Keep busy, I painted my fence, we are all upset but together you get used to school life.
