What is an Solstice?

An astronomical event that happens twice a year when the Sun reaches its highest or lowest point in the sky at noon. It marks the longest or shortest day of the year in terms of daylight. The winter solstice, 21st - 22nd December, is the shortest day of the year, when the North Pole tilts away from the Sun, which is at its lowest point in the sky at noon.
