What is an Equinox?

An equinox is when the Sun crosses the celestial equator, meaning it is directly above Earth’s equator. For one day, the Sun illuminates the Northern and Southern hemispheres equally on the 20th of September, so wherever you are in the World, the daytime and nighttime hours are the same.
